Pastel Presentations this Spring

The Carnegie Arts Center is offering two exciting opportunities to learn more about the pastel medium in conjunction with the current exhibition The Fine Art of Pastels (on view through May 26).

Sunday, May 12, at 2 p.m. is a presentation by artist Ginny Burdick whose work is included on the exhibition. Ginny lives and works in the foothills of the beautiful Sierra Mountains in Coarsegold, California. She is known for her strong use of color and imagery in pastel, oils, and watercolor. In 2012 Ginny opened a fine art gallery in Fresno, The Sense of Place, where she represents artists from throughout Central California. She teaches both pastel and watercolor workshops and classes. Saturday, May 18, we will present Exploring the Pastel Medium, a hands-on workshop with pastel artist and instructor Christine Obers.  Christine Obers, Liam

Join us as we discover, hands-on, why the pastel medium is the choice for so many artists. We will discuss the history of pastels, from cave drawings, 18th century portraits, to the exciting resurgence of the medium today. Pastels are simple to use and offer a tremendous range of techniques – from abstraction to tight renderings – and everything in between!

All levels of experience are welcome – from first-timers to advanced pastelists!  The afternoon session will build on the exciting skills and techniques explored in the morning session. Join us to experiment and have fun discovering the unlimited ways of creative expression with pastels.

$70 half day or $115 full day, pre-registration required.
