Art Quilts on Display

Art Quilts: Works by Members of Studio Art Quilt Associates is a juried exhibition that displays the most outstanding contemporary textile art created by members of the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) from both the Southern California/Southern Nevada and Northern California/Northern Nevada regions. In a collaboration with the California Heritage Museum, Santa Monica, and the leadership of the regional chapters of SAQA, a superb selection of 2-dimensial fiber arts form the basis for a traveling exhibition.

There was no specific theme to interpret for this exhibit, thus the 64 pieces included in the show reflect a diversity of styles, subjects, and techniques. To add another interesting element while on view in the Carnegie’s large Ferrari Gallery, a few 3-dimensional pieces were be selected from a pool of entries submitted by SAQA members in January. These 13 works supplement the 2-dimensional works while the exhibit is on display at the Northern California venue.

The exhibition will be on view at the Carnegie through May 27, 2018.

The works in the exhibition were selected by a panel of jurors that included Tobi Smith, Executive Director of the California Heritage Museum, and painters D.J. Hall and Bradford Salamon.
